your grandmother was right…

It seems one of the many things I remember about my grandmother was watching her brush my grandfather hair every morning with one of those funny looking brushes that kinda pricked you when you touched it. Turns out, grandma was right on…that brush, known as boar (or pig) bristle, uses natural fibers to pull the oils from the scalp through the ends. Also great for day 2 hair, use a boar brush with heat and presto, no frizz and takes the smell right out.

Remember sleeping on that satin pillow case that was always so cold to your baby face? Whala, point behind this, back then ladies would “set” their hair and the satin pillow case did less roughing up to the hair throughout the night. How does this translate to today’s world, less breakage, especially if you are one of those people that get those little “baby” hairs around your hairline…

The “set”, remember going to the beauty salon waiting on grandma to get her hair rolled and sit under the “gossip” dryer for what seemed like hours only to watch the beauty operator do the unimaginable teasing for about 30 minutes? The rollers are back, and have been for a few years now, with a minor adjustment…Velcro. Just roll you hair on one of many different sizes and use a heated dryer, or hooded one if you see one at a garage sale, and poof, volume and fullness.

Now grandma had several “home remedies” about conditioning/lightening hair, but in my opinion, there are much better deep conditioners on the market for health of hair as well as shine.

after a summer of swimming in chlorinated swimming pools, or that public pool that is over chlorinated, sometimes people discover their hair may turn green due to the chlorine. the “magic” fix…take 2 bayer aspirin, crush them up in your hands, add shampoo to that and wash. the salicylic acid in the aspirin will counteract the alkalinity of the chlorine and remove the green almost immediately. it is a wonder treatment especially for children…

as well, a very inexpensive way to remove product buildup is baking soda. put a ample amount in your hand, then add shampoo and it will remove buildup. make sure and condition well after this. it will not harm hair color and should be done monthly in most cases.

another successful hair color preview…blaine’s color dallas celebrated the 3rd annual hair color preview at mosaic ultra urban living this past week. the event showed the hottest in spring/summer hair color along with the hottest swimwear from everything but water. grey goose vodka served up some scrumptious cocktails, am/pm lounge with some delightful appetizers, and a few hundred guests helped raise several thousand dollars for the geneses women’s shelter dallas. keep watching as pictures and videos will be posted soon.
